Heart Macarons

Happy Valentine’s Day!

To celebrate I decided to jump on the bandwagon and get the popular heart shaped macarons found at Costco for this Valentine season. Each pack comes with 25 adorable vanilla and raspberry macarons. They were the perfect inspiration for a simple levitating composite image.

I began with stacking the macarons as a base for the photo. I also included Valentine’s themed pink flowers to frame the image.

I continued with the framing by adding flowers to each top corner.

I then held one macaron with a skewer to highlight the heart shape.

I got the final image in Photoshop by combining all the photos and using a layer mask to cut out the desired subjects and remove the skewer. I then just had to add minor lighting adjustments and remove any blemishes from the macarons.

This was my first time photographing macarons with them as the main subject so this was definitely a learning experience. I plan to try similar composites again as I continue into food photography, hopefully I will be able to try with my own homemade macarons in the future.
